I had a great practice at the rink yesterday. But I noticed something. There were a few regulars, and a group of about 15 celebrating a birthday. I was talking to them at the end of the night, and they were surprised that there are people who do this often. I told them I am, we are, here every Mon. then often Sat or Sun afternoons. The rest of the week at a different rink. I got dumb looks. I invited them back. I just felt that they had no idea that people skate for a living. (I do work, but living is on 8 wheels)
Selbst in den USA, dem gelobten Roller Skating Land, ist nicht alles Gold was glänzt. Die immer noch große Zahl der Rollschuhhallen darf nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, diese oft mangels Investitionen heruntergekommen sind und sich mit Kindergeburtstagsparties und Club-Training (Kunstlauf, Inline-Speed, Inline-Hockey, Roller-Derby) über Wasser halten. Die Anzahl der Roller Skating Rinks sinkt kontinuierlich. Eine Generation von Menschen verbindet Roller Skates nur noch mit Erinnerungen an grausame Kindergeburtstage oder sieht es als verrücktes Vergnügen für Betriebsfeste.
